Introduction: Digital entrepreneurship has emerged as a primary driver of contemporary economic and social transformations, expanding at an unprecedented pace. Despite the substantial volume of scientific literature in this domain, there is a notable lack of a comprehensive understanding of its knowledge structure and a fragmentation of research efforts. This gap poses significant challenges for guiding future inquiries and, more importantly, for designing effective entrepreneurship education and promotion programs. To address this, the present study aims to analyze the intellectual structure of digital entrepreneurship, map its strategic research trajectories, and position thematic clusters within the literature. The primary objective is to identify core research nuclei and uncover existing gaps, thereby delineating novel pathways for both academic research and entrepreneurial education.
Methodology: This study employs a descriptive-analytical scientometric approach. The statistical population includes 4,329 documents indexed in the Web of Science on digital entrepreneurship from 1993 to 2026. Analytical methods included keyword frequency analysis to identify key concepts, co-occurrence analysis to examine conceptual relationships, and hierarchical clustering using the Ward algorithm for thematic grouping. The strategic position of thematic clusters was determined using density and centrality metrics. Data processing and network visualization were conducted using Ravar Premap, UCINET, NetDraw, and SPSS.
Findings: The analysis reveals that the literature on digital entrepreneurship is anchored by three core pillars: "Digital Economy," "Information Technology," and "Digital Innovation." The exponential growth in publications (from 121 in 2017 to 920 in 2025) signifies the field’s transition into a strategic imperative. "Information Technology" and "Digital Innovation," with a high betweenness centrality of 3.756, serve as strategic bridges facilitating knowledge flow. Hierarchical clustering identifies nine thematic areas categorized into: (1) developed cores (technology and sustainable development), (2) strategic gaps (platforms and resilience), and (3) emerging fields (institutional factors and education).
Conclusion/ Implications: The findings indicate that digital entrepreneurship has evolved from a fragmented structure into a coherent ecosystem anchored by the "technology-economy-innovation" nexus. The strategic roadmap analysis revealed a significant gap between practical relevance and theoretical maturity, particularly within the domains of platforms and resilience. By precisely identifying these gaps, this study delineates new horizons in emerging areas such as institutional factors, digital tourism, and education. From a practical and educational perspective, the results suggest that entrepreneurship education and promotion programs must move beyond a purely technology-centric approach. Instead, they should prioritize the development of digital literacy, platform-based business models, and organizational resilience. This study provides a strategic tool for policymakers to optimize resource allocation and offers researchers a roadmap to guide future inquiries. It is recommended that future research focus on developing theories concerning the role of social and institutional factors within the digital entrepreneurship ecosystem.
