English

Introduction: Industrial innovation constitutes a cornerstone of entrepreneurship, economic growth, and the transition toward sustainable development, fostering long-term socioeconomic prosperity. This evolutionary trajectory has given rise to novel conceptual frameworks that reshape both entrepreneurial promotion and economic systems. Amidst growing imperatives such as sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and the proliferation of new business models, industrial innovation has undergone a profound transformation, acquiring characteristics markedly distinct from its traditional conceptualizations. A direct and reciprocal relationship thus exists among the circular economy, innovation, and industrial economic growth. The circular economy is increasingly recognized as the future trajectory of the global economy, as the rising share of industrial and innovative products-pursued with sustainability objectives-has elevated this strategic paradigm to a position of prominence within economic systems. The imperative to innovate-transforming nascent ideas into novel economic solutions, products, processes, and services-is critical for achieving sustainability and securing competitive advantage for firms. Accordingly, the present study aims to identify a comprehensive framework for the industrial innovation process through the lens of circular economy principles. It is posited that when properly understood, designed, and implemented, such a process can contribute to societal sustainability by unlocking entrepreneurial opportunities and engendering new forms of value creation.
Methodology: This study employed Sandelowski and Barroso's qualitative meta-synthesis approach. The process commenced with a systematic review of 270 initial articles, from which 66 studies meeting the inclusion criteria-namely, publications addressing the industrial innovation process and circular economy strategies between 2010 and 2024-were selected for final analysis. The reliability of the extracted findings was assessed using Cohen's kappa coefficient (κ = 0.751), indicating an acceptable level of inter-coder agreement. To validate the proposed model and enhance its credibility, the findings were subjected to expert review and iterative refinement, ensuring confirmability and trustworthiness.
Findings: The meta-synthesis yielded 53 constituent components, organized into five overarching dimensions within the industrial innovation process informed by circular economy strategies. These dimensions encompass: (1) technological, digital, and other intelligent transformations; (2) developmental objectives aligned with business models fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable value creation; (3) examination of macro- and micro-environmental factors alongside other contextual requirements; (4) application of organizational, systemic, and industrial competencies in entrepreneurship and innovation; and (5) integration of environmental strategies and outcomes within innovation, entrepreneurship, and value creation processes.
Conclusion / Implications: The industrial innovation framework developed in this research advocates for balanced value creation across the innovation ecosystem-spanning economic systems as well as entrepreneurial, social, and environmental domains. The findings offer a foundational basis for operationalizing circular economy strategies in alignment with industrial innovation processes. By elucidating the key components and influential factors, this study provides actionable insights for industrial organizations seeking to cultivate innovative opportunities and promote entrepreneurship in pursuit of sustainable development.
