English

Introduction: The home-based business ecosystem encompasses a constellation of factors and conditions that facilitate the growth and development of small-scale and home-based enterprises. This ecosystem comprises financial resources, technological infrastructure, communication networks, and both social and governmental support mechanisms. Given the growing inclination toward entrepreneurship and financial independence, home-based businesses have emerged as an increasingly attractive option within the labor market. These ventures not only contribute to employment generation but also foster economic diversification and the reinforcement of local communities. Nevertheless, challenges such as market competition, access to distribution channels, and resource management persist within this ecosystem, necessitating deliberate attention and strategic planning. The present study was conducted with the objective of developing a model for the development of home-based businesses in Ilam Province, Iran.
Methodology: This research is applied in terms of purpose and adopts a qualitative approach grounded in the methodology of data-based theory (grounded theory). Data were collected through semi-structured, in-depth interviews with 18 experts comprising the study population-namely, entrepreneurs engaged in home-based businesses-using non-probability, purposive sampling until theoretical saturation was achieved. The data were analyzed through open, axial, and selective coding processes, following the systematic design of Strauss and Corbin, facilitated by MAXQDA software. To ensure the validity and reliability of the interview protocol, the member-checking method and intra-subject agreement procedures were employed.
Findings: The analysis identified the following causal factors: essential characteristics and skills, individual factors, social beliefs and attitudes toward home-based businesses, and personality traits. Intervening conditions encompassed government legal protections, governmental intervention, and extant laws and regulations. Contextual conditions included environmental factors, economic conditions, infrastructure, economic fluctuations, and social changes. Strategies identified comprised: developing communication networks and joint ventures, implementing marketing mix strategies, recognizing and responding to community needs in home-based products, fostering a competitive environment among home-based businesses, and leveraging information and communication technologies alongside digital marketing. The resulting outcomes included unemployment reduction, economic development, economic and environmental improvements, enhanced competitiveness of home-based enterprises, and the strengthening of local economies and sustainable development.
Conclusion/ Implications: The findings demonstrate that home-based businesses can serve as an effective instrument for reducing unemployment and enhancing quality of life. Consequently, due attention to influential components and appropriate policymaking can significantly contribute to the sustainable development of this ecosystem. In today's rapidly evolving economic and social landscape, home-based enterprises not only generate employment opportunities but also reinforce local economic resilience and sustainable development. This entrepreneurial ecosystem provides a platform wherein individuals can leverage their skills and interests to create added value, thereby opening new realms of possibility for themselves and their communities.
